To make homemade popcorn in a pot: (per 1 measuring cup)
Equipment: Use a large pot with a tight-fitting lid (a glass lid is recommended so you can see the process).
Heating and greasing: Heat a little oil (such as canola oil) in a saucepan over high heat. You can test if the oil is ready by adding a few kernels – when they pop, the oil is hot enough.
Adding the corn kernels: Add the remaining corn kernels and shake the pot lightly to coat them with oil.
Close and shake: Close the pot and continue heating. Shake the pot occasionally to prevent the kernels from sticking or burning.
End: When the explosions slow down significantly (a gap of a few seconds between explosions), turn off the fire and wait until all explosions have completely stopped.
Seasoning: Transfer to a large bowl and add salt or other seasonings to taste.
